Halloween Party Invitation Cards

I am sharing my first Halloween project of this year. I created these Halloween party invitations using some older dies I had and the new Sizzix Shadow Alpha dies.

I started with die cutting the windows (Window Frame Bigz Die), applying grit texture paste on them and painting them with dark grey acrylic paint. Then I worked on the embellishments. I used Frightful Things die set and Regions Beyond die set to die cut all the smaller elements and coloured them with distress inks (the ghosts – Old Paper, Antique Linen, the cat – Black Soot and Crushed Olive for the eyes, the pumpkin - Spiced Marmalade, Aged Mahogany, the broom – Black Soot, Ground Espresso, Antique Linen, the spider webs – Black Soot, the hat – Black Soot, Wilted Violet, the witch – Wilted Violet, Crushed Olive and the candles – Antique Linen, Ground Espresso + yellow and orange marker for the flames).

Then I also decided to add fake blood, which I created by mixing dark red acrylic paint with glue. I also tried mixing Aged Mahogany Distress Ink with glue, which turns a lot more realistic while wet, but once it dries, it is quite dark. I did not use it, but thinking back, I should have used it for the lighter elements like the ghost, for on them the paint turned a little bit too pink and bright. I would also recommend waiting for a little while, till the glue dries a bit, for it starts to create clots and looks a lot more realistic. Fake blood is something like adding gold speckles for me and I really cannot stop using it once I start, so there is going to be a lot more on my future projects.

As for the background, I used Brickwork embossing folder on kraft cardstock and applied Hickory Smoke, Frayed Burlap and Black Soot Distress Oxide Ink. I made one of them slightly darker than the other one.

Then I created the frames, I cut them out of kraft using craftknife and coloured them using Ground Espresso and Black Soot Mini Inkpads.

Finally, I just stuck everything down and added “BOO” and “fright” using Alphanumeric Shadow die sets. I cut the letters out of kraft cardstock and applied Distress Inks – Aged Mahogany, Spiced Marmalade, Hickory Smoke and Black Soot. I also added a raven sitting on the letter ‘r’ and some spider webs from Frightful Things die set and Regions Beyond die sets, which I also cut out of kraft and coloured with Black Soot Distress Oxide Ink. I added a little bit of Wilted Violet on the edges of the raven to create a shadow.

Thank you for visiting my blog and have a great weekend!
