BOO!

It has been a very busy month, but I finally got some time for crafting! Today I am sharing a card a created using some older Tim Holtz dies.

First, I started with a background. I took a piece of kraft cardstock, masked off the moon and coloured it with Distress Oxide Inks (Faded Jeans, Wilted Violet, Shaded Lilac and Black Soot). Then I removed the mask and used the negative piece to mask of the background and coloured the moon. I used Hickory Smoke and Antique Linen. Finally, I added gold speckles as usual (I really cannot help it!).

Then I worked on the houses (Ghost Town die set). I die cut each of them twice out of kraft cardstock and stuck both die cuts together for more sturdiness. Then, I added texture paste to create roofs. After that I painted them with black acrylic paint. Then, I put a piece of scratched acetate sheet behind all the windows and I also added black and yellow cardstock behind the acetate so that it looks like there is light behind some of the windows.

I was also playing with different ways of preparing fake blood. I tried mixing distress inks (Aged Mahogany and Fired Brick) with glue, but it turned out rather pale on the black surface of the houses, so I tried mixing red acrylic paint with glue, which turned out much brighter when dry. It is, however, too bright on white cardstock, so in that case it is better to use distress inks. I applied it with my fingers and as the glue (water-based) begins to dry 'it is a good idea to wait for a few minutes before applying it), it creates clumps and it looks very realistic.

Then I worked on the ghosts (Frightful Things). First, I cut them out of white cardstock and then I coloured them lightly with Old Paper and Antique Linen Distress Inks. I also added a layer of glow-in-the-dark embossing powder by WOW, which by the way created a very nice texture.

After that I created the frame. I cut it by hand out of kraft cardstock and painted it with dark gold acrylic paint. Then I added a layer of crackle medium and when it was dark, I applied a layer of the same gold acrylic paint but this time mixed with black paint. I think the frame turned out absolutely beautiful, although not as spooky as I had planned.

Then I die cut a sentiment (Handmade Bigz die) out of thick cardboard (1 mm) and painted it with gold acrylic paint.

I also added some spiderwebs (and a spider) underneath the frame and finally I stuck everything down.

Thank you for visiting my blog and see you soon.
